Should you work out before transitioning. (The lgbt response)

Working out has always been at the forefront of everyone’s mind at the beginning of the year. We make plans to work out and then we realize we are transgender. All of a sudden that bulking up doesn’t seem like such a smart idea. So, the idea comes up later in life and the mind starts wondering. Should I have started working out before transitioning? Or maybe you’re simply curious. What would happen if you were male and wanted to transition?

My initial answer.

Originally for me working out was never a big question. I hated the idea that it was easy for me to grow muscle. The fact that all my muscle could easily be gained from work. Or even worse just from the simple act of walking. Working out was terrible.
Looking back on it I’m happy I never decided to work out. I’m pretty tall and narrow. Hormones and T blockers got rid of most of the easy muscle I had gained and allowed me to start out relatively fresh. To others I know they have thick arms and legs and perhaps they are happy; I never asked.
Others were already semi overweight and perhaps working out would make it easier to do various things but they always turned out looking more feminine afterward. Turns out being a slightly overweight man makes transitioning to a female easier.
Yet, the question remains should you actually workout before transitioning? Short answer I wouldn’t but it depends on the situation.

Female to male.

I’d argue sure go ahead and workout. A lot of studies show that women have a harder time with muscle gain and have to work harder to get the same type of definition that men would get. As a woman myself, I find it a little bit relieving. I hate the idea that I would be able to gain muscle as quickly as I used to. Trust me, if your aiming to pass in the typical sense working out cannot be seen as a bad thing. Minus the obvious impacts that working out offer after you start getting some T in your system you’ll be able to gain more muscle a bit easier then you might have done previously. It’s a win-win.

For a quick break. Passing in the sense that I’m using it is meant in the stereotypical sense. It means doing your best to look as much like the opposite sex as possible. Whether or not you want to is not for me to command.

Female to male in my personal opinion have the biggest reason to work out. Being nonbinary is completely an option and very much more of a personal preference when it comes to working out.
Just for fun if you’re interested in working out but your born female click here for some more reasons why you may have a harder time getting the mass you want.

Male to female.

However, when it comes to the male to female and passing I have to stress hard against it. If you have the ideal woman that you want to be I’d say that avoiding highly strenuous workouts or stuff that make you gain muscle easily can be seen as necessary. Working out is healthy and everyone must have told you that a thousand time but the fact is you have the easiest chance in gaining muscle.
Women are not typically seen bulky and buff. Unless they are pro body builders and they are intimidating. Much love to them but imma be honest the last time I saw one I was terrified. They have so much work going into their bodies that it’s so friggen cool but scary to see.
If you don’t care and working out to be a pro body builder is your ideal goal. Then, go for it! Scare the people who need to be scared and bust some balls. You go girl.
However, if you’re like me and you’re semi-tall? Screw it. Just do the bare minimum and wait till you feel confident enough to transition. The choice is all yours.

Nonbinary.

You beautiful son of a bitch. Excuse my language. You get to do you. Workout or not it’s totally up to you. Just realize what hormones are chasing your body and choose the workouts that fit best for you. Below I’ll link a few of my favorite websites that I use. I felt like I had to include you guys in my post because every time I meet one of you I just praise the literal coolness that oozes off of you as you just say fuck it. This is my ode to you.

How long into transitioning should you start working out.

A quick step into my personal thoughts when it comes to transitioning. A few sentences or less for every part of the spectrum.

Female to male.

Depending on how into the look of your ideal body shape I say work out as much as you want to. Bulk up and become the handsome hunk that you deserve to be. I personally don’t believe that you should care. Working out is a healthy thing to do. Just do it to your preference.

Male to female.

Before transitioning don’t. During the transition, I would say the best time to do it is when you have confirmed with your doctor that your testosterone levels are reduced. The whole point of working out as a male is to get fit and bulk out. Women have every right to work out but if you want to pass more feminine. I’d say take a little bit of time to just sit back and let the hormones work their magic. Afterward, go ahead and workout according to your preference and what you are trying to work out more on.

Nonbinary?

What is your ideal goal? To be transitioning or not is the question. In the end, you are essentially trapped in the body that you were born in and the hormones raging through your body.

The final answer.

Working out before transitioning is truly up to which gender you’re trying to look like. Hormones change everything and we know this. So for me I’m happy as hell I never did. Do you and ask yourself what is your ideal body. Can working out change that?

My Number 1 favorite app to workout with.

Down dog. Yoga is my thing nowadays. I love the benefits and I love how simplistic it is until I decide to make it harder. Yoga allows me to never feel really burnt out while at the same time allowing my body to finally feel good. Down dog is great for me as a person who never works out to feel fantastic afterward. I can look back and tell myself, I feel friggen amazing. This is not a sponsored post but I’ve fallen in love with it. The cost for joining is free or not. They take care of everything.

Thank you.

Working out was never my thing but it came to me to ask myself. Is working out before transitioning really that bad? Hopefully at the very least I’ve given you a new tool to workout with. I think the question comes down to whether or not you want to. I don’t think i would have been as happy if I had started working out with Testosterone going through me. So, I wrote this to tell you to think before you act. I hope you enjoyed!!! Love you all so much thanks for reading!
